If you're driving up to the Sierra Nevada ski resorts this season, be careful on the roads. As of 7th March 2011 the speed limit on Spanish roads has been reduced from a max 120km/h to 110km/h and there are unmarked police patrol vehicles enforcing the new speed limits. As well as new speed limits you should also keep an eye out for snow and ice on the roads on the higher ground. Many drivers who come up from the Costa del Sol may be used to driving in the warm sunshine down on the coastal roads and do not immediately realise that on the roads leading up to the Sierra Nevada, the road conditions can change quite quickly and you'll see ice on the roads and grit bins at the roadside.
